When a side loses his general, does it mean he automaticaly loses the battle? Or he can still play with the rotamoster?

Death of the main commander doesn't end the game.

It only gives more Victory Points for Force Point losses and in certain scenario's also more Victory Points as an objective.

Yes, but if there isn't any officer (like a Major) to take command after the general death. What do you do? You can't give orders to units.

For sure, not having a commander makes it difficult to win or even continue the fight, but if your units are already in the right place, you might still pull through. For example, if you've occupied a village with a bunch of your units and they hold out till the end of the game, that village is yours.

In other words, there's no reason losing a commander should be an auto-loss even though it's a very serious blow to your forces.

Yes, for instance, troops without an order can still Shoot After Movement and can still make a voluntary Withdrawal move towards their own table edge.
