Core rules online (and for free) :)

Many time you have asked us about rulebook in portable format and quite soon we'll be able to meet you demand.

Before we print this book we would like to get feedback from you. Please have in mind it's BETA version If there is anything unclear please let us know by posting on our forum.

Below you can find link to download

http://www.fireandsword.wargamer.pl/ind ... okbeta0706

By the way of this release, we have decided to add necessary additions and clarifications of the rules of the game. These are still the same rules as in previous editions of rulebooks. But since their publication, along with a whole bunch of new players, at the same time their new questions and interpretations, we've decided to refine some of the entries and also fix some minor bugs or omissions. As a result, to make the reading easier for “old” players, we’ve introduced the "!" symbol on the margins of pages – meaning that you need to pay special attention to the rule as it is new, improved or changing an important element in the game

We hope the book will meet your expectations.

- This might be nitpicky but under "The Iniative Phase" page 17 it states:
"The higher roll wins the Initiative for the following turn." Shouldn't it be "The higher roll wins the Initiative for this turn." or "The higher roll wins the Initiative for the current turn."?

- Typo on page 18 right column, 2nd paragraph, 2nd sentence:
"Issuing an order to a Unit within the Command Range basicly costs one Command Point." should be "basically" not "basicly".

- Page 21 left column 2n paragraph, 3rd sentence:
"Spending more than 1 Command Point results in increasing the Morale level of a Fleeing Unit by the amount of additional points spent." shouldn't it be "Morale characteristic" or "Morale value"? And "by the amount of additional points spent (maximum of +3). and "Fleeing and Disorganized Unit"? Maybe the sentence should end with an additional "[...]by the amount of additional points spent (maximum of +3)."

- Page 23 right column under "No Order" last sentence:
"The Unit can shoot in the Shooting after Movement Stage but using only with 1 die per Base." should be "The Unit can shoot in the Shooting after Movement Stage but using only 1 die per Base."

- Page 24 right column last paragraph, second to last sentence:
"[...]but you cannot switch from Line into a Column and back into a Line and March." Seems superfluous because after forming a Line a second time the Unit can't march anyway because it isn't in Column formation. Better wording would be: "[...]but you cannot switch from Line into a Column then March and then switch back into a Line" if this is the intention.
EDIT: I now see under the Marching rules on page 69 that the original sentence is correct because: "A unit may maneuver to form a column, move Marching, and then maneuver again to spread out.

- Page 29 a typo in the second frame of the left column:
"One stand on one or both sides per Maneuver (depending on Unit's Order)." should read "One base on one or both sides per Maneuver (depending on Unit's Order)."
- Also page 29 first frame in right column:
"Complete change of formation and the frontage of the Unit. Requires spending 2 Special Maneuvers." should read "Complete change of formation and the frontage of the Unit. Requires spending all Special Maneuvers."
- Also page 29 a typo in the right column last sentence under "Change of Position":
"This maneuver is performed regardless terrain (except Impassable Terrain rules and bogging down test)." should be ""This maneuver is performed regardless of type of terrain (except Impassable Terrain rules and bogging down test)."
- Also page 29 last paragraph needs a clarification: With a Unit where only some rows are able to pass an obstacle but the last (or further) row of bases can't cross it because there isn't physically enough space to place them, do I have to move the front bases backwards until their rear touches the obstacle? Or do they just remain where they are and there will be a gap between the rear rows (behind the obstacle) and the front rows?

- Page 30 a typo in the left column under Open Order rules 3rd paragraph 2nd sentence:
"[...]and are in contact with the another bases[...]" should be ""[...]and are in contact with another base[...]"
- 4th paragraph:
"Dispersion – separate bases of the Unit so they form an Open Order (one base must stay in place, move any others the required distance)" should be "Dispersion – separate bases of the Unit so that they form an Open Order (one base must stay in place, move any others the required distance)"

- Page 31 two typos in the left column under "Manning a gun or wagon" second paragraph last sentence:
"Additionaly they need Skill attribute of at least 4." should be "Additionally they need a Skill attribute of at least 4."
- Right column 3rd paragraph last sentence:
"Wagons and guns keep amount of ammunitions, as it had in the moment of crew loss." should be "Wagons and guns keep the amount of ammunitions, as it had in the moment of crew loss."
- And right column last paragraph before the frame:
"If the regiment lost its gun and will man it again later, that will decrease Breaking Points number by 1. This situation can repeat each time this gun will be lost and manned by its regiment. Manned guns don't affect on Breaking Points of the regiments, in which they didn't start the game." should be "If the regiment lost its gun and will man it again later, that will decrease the number of Breaking Points by 1. This situation can repeat each time this gun will be lost and manned by its regiment. Manned guns don't have an effect on Breaking Points of the regiments, in which they didn't start the game."

- Page 33 a typo in the left column under "Charging Reactions" 2nd bullet:
"(for Units in a the Pike and Shot Formation)" should be "(for Units in a Pike and Shot Formation)"
- Page 33 right column 1st paragraph, 1st sentence:
"[...]in order to face target enemy Unit." should be "in order to face the targeted enemy Unit."
- 3rd paragraph is a bit unclear:
"During the charge you may narrow the front of the Unit in order to avoid impassable terrain obstacles and own Units." Should it read "During the charge you may narrow the front of the Unit in order to avoid impassable terrain, obstacles and own Units."? Note the added comma by me. So narrowing the front is also allowed to avoid obstacles? Or is "impassable terrain obstacles" one term?

-Page 34 a typo in the left column 1st paragraph, 2nd sentence:
"It is not allowed to perform a Wheel in such a way that it will take him from the front (or rear) area of the enemy Unit into its flank area." should be "It is not allowed to perform a Wheel in such a way that it will take itself from the front (or rear) area of the enemy Unit into its flank area."

- Page 35 left column 1st paragraph has missing spaces between words in the 6th line.

- Page 36 right column, 1st paragraph, last sentence:
"[...]but does not disorganize." should be "[...]but doesn't get disorganized."
- Under "Losing the Charge Order" point 1.:
"[...]without making contact any enemy Unit from the front[...]" should be "[...]without contacting any enemy Unit with it's front[...]"

- Page 37 right column, 1st paragraph, 1stsentence:
"[...]are in contact (Close Combat) with that letter." should be "[...]are in contact (Close Combat) with the last mentioned."

- Page 38: Shouldn't unit B2 fight with it's front? Unit B2's right side is covered by impassable terrain(the river).

- Page 39 left column under "General Rules" the 2nd paragraph. For better readability and understanding change the first sentence this way:
"If a Unit which is in contact with an enemy and before the first round of Close Combat is (for whatever reason) forced to Withdraw or Flee, then it has to (respectively) Withdraw or Flee from the enemy, with which it is in contact."

- Page 40 left column second-to-last paragraph last sentence:
"Removing a Base (or Bases) can't lead to Unit's coherence loss or to making Non-standard Formation." should be "Removing a Base (or Bases) is not allowed to lead to the loss of a Unit's coherency or to forma Non-standard Formation."
- Last paragraph 1st sentence:
"[...](but he can't make Non-standard Formation this way)." should be "[...](but he can't form a Non-standard Formation this way)."
- Right column under "Combat dice rolls modifiers". 1st paragraph should read:
"During a Combat – both Close Combat or Ranged – players will make Skill tests for each fighting Unit. For each fighting base roll a number of dice equal to its Combat attribute (Close Combat or Shooting), given in the Unit’s characteristics."
- Next paragraph should be modified as this:
"During the Skill test the following modifiers should be applied according to the given order:
1. All modifiers which change the printed Combat value to 1 (Disorganization, Shooting while Charging, Rifled Barrels etc.).
2. All modifiers which add or subtract the number of dice (losses, flank/rear attack, flanking fire, pikemen support etc.). In case of doubts calculate the least favorable.
3. All modifiers which change the Skill value.
Rules which where described in Chapter 1. “What you need to know to start gaming”: Dice and Dice Rolls should be also remembered."

- Page 41 right column, 1st paragraph, 1st sentence:
"That means that gap between such Bases or/and terrain must be at least 2 cm wide." should be""That means that a gap between such Bases or/and terrain must be at least 2 cm wide."
- 2nd paragraph:
"In the case of bow-armed cavalry the line can also be drawn from the middle of side or rear edge[...]" should be "In the case of bow-armed cavalry the line can also be drawn from the middle of the side or rear edge[...]"

- Page 42 right column, 2nd paragraph:
"While shooting at single base of an artillery, infantry, cavalry or commander treat it as a Unit in Open Order." should be "While shooting at a[/u ]single base of artillery, infantry, cavalry or [u]a commander treat it as a Unit in Open Order."

- Page 48 left column 1st paragraph 1st and 2nd sentences:
"A Base must first attack the Base that it contacted to the front. If a Base is contacted to the front with more than one enemy's Base,[...]" should be "A Base must first attack the Base that it contacted with its front. If a Base is in contact with its front with more than one enemy's Base,[...]"
- Same but last sentence a word is missing:
"If a Base is not touching any enemy Bases it may still attack it meets all the following conditions:" should be "If a Base is not touching any enemy Bases it may still attack if it meets all the following conditions:"

- Page 48 left column last paragraph 1st sentence:
"In order to receive this modifier between Units must be at least 10cm space and cavalry unit the last 10cm before contacting the enemy must move in Open Ground or downhill and without wheeling or making any maneuvers." should be "In order to receive this modifier there must be at least 10cm of space between the Units and additionally during the last 10cm before contacting the enemy the cavalry unit has to move over Open Ground or downhill and without wheeling or performing any maneuvers."
- 2nd sentence:
"While continuing Charge, Move from the previous turn is counted in." should be "While continuing the Charge, the Move from the previous turn is counted in."
- 3rd sentence:
"A cavalry unit also doesn't receive impetus when the target unit stands in other terrain other then Open Ground (excluding downhill, road or forage area), behind an obstacle or has Defense Order and is armed with polearms." should be "A cavalry unit also doesn't receive the impetus modifier when the target unit stands in terrain other than Open Ground (excluding downhill, road or forage area), behind an obstacle or hasa Defense Order and is armed with polearms."

- Page 49 left column under "Combat Resolution Modifiers" 2nd bullet:

- Page 50 right column under "Multiple Units Combat" 2nd paragraph 1st sentence:

- Right column last paragraph:
"Flights and Withdrawals is the last Close Combat Step and is conducted the same way as Step 6." should be "Flights and Withdrawals are the last Close Combat Steps and are conducted in the same way as Step 6."

- Page 54:
The one "hit" is missing at the Hussars unit in Drawing D. Also in the accompanying text is the -1 outnumbering bonus missing (The Hussars have now 1 base more than the Reiters). The Reiters should loose the combat by -3.

- Page 55 left column under "Effectiveness" last sentence:
"(and only for enemy Bases at the front of charging Unit)." should be "(and only for enemy Bases at the front of the charging Unit)."
- Right column under "Peasant weapons" and thereunder "Polearms":

I really enjoyed Beta! But I didn't find division-level scenarios. Are they remain unchanged? Or completely excluded from the rulebook?

They are unchanged - small rulebook is focused to get new players which will not be able to play Division soon. We plan to publish separate supplement for Division level games but definitely not this year.

"At the beginning of each Phase in which the charging
Unit is moved, it may perform one Wheel (but only
to the front), in order to face target enemy Unit"

Should be: towards the enemy

So far I reached page 60. Tomorrow I will continue. :)

And is this correct? Light Cavalry now has a -2 combat resolution modifier? -1 for Poor Tactical Discipline for being in Open Order and an additional -1 for being Light Cavalry?

And is it intentional that dirung normal Movement an Open Order base can rotate freely on it's center but during a Charge Move it has to wheel?

@BlackLegion
Congratulations ;)
1) Yes (but remember that -2 will be only in Open Groud and both types of field).
2) Yes.

Looking good, but a lot of typos still. First some more substantial stuff:

P19, order counters show Polish text.
P19, instructions paragraph itself doesn't mention that an order contrary to the instruction costs more CP. Only the summary says so.
P21, Change to 'After a Fleeing Unit is Rallied it cannot be issued Orders in the same Orders Phase, instead it should immediately be reformed.' in the fifth paragraph.
P136, ambush scenario has the wrong map.
Terrain quick reference has some Polish terms.

Whoa! Yes, it is! You're right. That's the real ambush and supprize! :P
Yup. I noticed it yesterday. Should be:
Open Ground, Road: Can March
Steep slopes/Cliffs: VDT + Skill test

Dear players, please read carefully also at these pages:
48 - the section with "!" marking
73 - Armor in Forest
and let us know is everything understable and clear there.

Thank you for your help and attention!
