With defence order one can usually do maneuvers and shoot, with military drill One can do two.
Can one first do special maneuvers eg. make the formation narrower and then caracole?

You can't do turns or Maneuvers during Caracole.

@BlackLegion
What's the source of your answer? Official FAQ says unit performing caracole cannot cross obstacles or turn. I think it can expand frontage.

No wheels or crossing obstacles during the caracole, but what about doing maneuver before it.
Question came up only recently - caracole is not something we need often :-)

Nothing preventing it as far as I know and it's a fairly common (or as common as the caracole itself) tactic to, for example, do a 90deg turn and caracole. Or, as in your situation, Special Manoeuvre into the correct formation and then Caracole.

Hmm. Ok before it does the Caracole it seems that the unit can do everything it wants.

Me two weeks ago playing river scenario. Using this rule you can shoot from two rows and enemy hits you at -1 while shooting

Charge through the bridge? 1 base against 3. 2 attacks vs 6. I had 6 armoured reiters, my opponent didn't even try to charge to keep his losses as low as possible. In a whole game, I lost two bases from shooting (but passed morale check) and I killed one in the same manner. Luckily I ended up controlling both bridge and ford, 9:3 in small, 4:2 in big points.
