Could you explain me that? I asume National can use Spanish musket and New Type use ordinary musket, but I think I'm wrong.

Only Old Type has Spanish Muskets.

Stats wise there is no difference between National and New Type.

Before the redesign they were mostly the same figures too, can't understand why they were sold as separate packs.

On this subject, I have been confused about what figures are used between the different infantry units for some time and was hoping for clarification. IF I am understanding this correctly:

Old-Type Musketeers: Mercenary, uses 'Spanish' muskets and the SWE-7 set
New-Type Musketeers: Mercenary, uses standard muskets and the SWE-6 set
National New-Type Musketeers: National unit, uses standard muskets and the SWE-5 set

I'm trying to clarify because I've started building and painting my army but I have the original first run Swedish command boxed set and national infantry boxed set. With the updates to the Swedish detachment skirmish list I think I need to get the SWE-6 set to represent the (non-National) New-Type musketeers in the base forces at 3 FSP.

As callan said SWE-5 and SWE-6 were the same and even now you can mix them together, clothing and weapons have no (visible) difference. I guess you can even use some dragoons on foot to mix with them. Only SWE-7, with Spanish muskets, are really different from the others. Most players distinguish national and mercenary by the use of colours; blue colours for national and brownish, red, green etc. (except blue) for mercenaries.

Ah, alright I misunderstood what he meant there. That is good to know, I don't have to get an entirely new boxed set of musketeers with slightly different hats or something :D Thanks for the clarification.

Sorry for the double post, but to further clarify for the Swedish Detachment skirmish list PDF:

What is the 'OR' option referring to? For the Swedes I thought all National musketeers were New-Type? I'm trying to figure out which units are mercenary and national so I can paint them differently.

New type can be national or mercenary. Old type can be only mercenary :)

It should read "New type musketeers - National or merc"

The rulebook clearly lists three types of infantry:

  • National
  • Old Type mercenary
  • New Type mercenary

The fact that the National regiments have the same weapons as the New Type mercenaries does not require them to be designated as "New National". There is only one type since they abolished the Spanish musket years before.
