It can be. My advise is to plan a bit a head what you want in a division. Take a spreadsheet and fill in the minimum requirements, what the units are, how many bases etc.

Then take a look at what Wargamer is offering. What does a starterbox contain. Then match it with what you need for a division.

For example; I noticed that that for a Cossack allied regiment that can be used by Transylvanians, two starterboxes are a great start. That is the way I do it, maybe there is something better to determine that. 8-)

Good point.

Any shareable spreadsheets or army builders out there?

Cheers

It highly depends on how big of a division you want to start with and what division, in which compision you have planned. The bigger your division will be, the more likely it will get, that you can buy several skirmsh boxes, even of different kind, to get a nice mix of units as well as models inside the units. But one way or another you have to fill the blanks with some other blisters and boxes.

Thanks.
I finally got my hands on the books from a local gaming group until I get my own in the next two weeks.

It seems it takes quite a bit of thinking and planning before the first purchase ;)
Too bad there is no "standard" division box sets that I can buy to get started 8)
(lazy, I know!)

Well, there are no standard divisions. There might be some kind of standard regiments, like the swedish national infantry one, that can be fielded buying two boxes of infantry and one commander blister. The rest depends on what division you like to play and what regiments you like to field in it. I personally like that you have to chose and think, what you want to buy, paint and field, instead of just having everyone buy the standard division box and play the same stuff.

If you want an easy division: Buy four skirmish boxes, two infantry boxes and the command box. Then you are at three regiments and about 40 FSP.

If you want your personal division: Think about what you want to field, including additional units, allied regiments, alternative models (like the imperial skirmish box or holy roman empire blisters) and so on. Then you can chose between the different divisions and buy what you need.

As Teremsi said there is no such thing as standard division. You have 3 division lists in Deluge, and 2 more in PDF and every division can have from 3 to 5 regiments. You can have pure swedish divisions and with allies like Commonwealth, Transylvania and Brandenburg. Lots of options.

First, Reiters. Lots of them. For a start 12-22 bases of unarmored and 8-12 armored. They are base of every division. There is never too much Reiters.
Second. A Box (or better two) of infantry national/mercenaries new type. You may need more, maybe even old type.
Third. You may like dragoons. 8 bases are good for a start.
Fourth. Cannons. 2 medium and 4 light guns is all you need. Don't forget transport wagon with ammo for them.
Of course High Command is a must.

With that you can start to create your division(s). After few games you will know what more you want. I.E. Brandenburg allies are very powerfull especialy 12 bases of armored veteran Reiters 8)
