Hi

So I am trying to place my order of miniatures (books already ordered) for a Danish army.

What I want is to use this list and have these regiments:
"NEW WAR" (1658) DEFENSIVE DIVISION. (equivalent of the defense of Copenhagen against the Swedes).

My base of dvisions will be these three: Mercenary Cavalry | National Infantry | National Infantry
Add. Regiments (up to two) will be: Dutch Infantry | National Cavalry
Artillery: Light gun | Light gun | Medium gun (I plan to buy all three)
Additional units: I will get a little of everything. But at the minimum I want some dragoons as I like the concept and miniatures.

But to decide what miniatures and sets to buy I need to decide which options I will go for. For example:

1. Mercenary cavalry: A. How many should I go for for armoured reiters? Do you guys go for the maximum? B. Half of the cavalry can be with arquebusiers. Should I go for the full half? I assume I need special models for arquebusiers.
2. National cavalry: Same question as above regarding arquebusiers.
3. Are the two light and the medium gun worth it?
4. Dragoons. Do I buy both mounted and dismounted miniatures?

I find it really hard to estimate exactly what amount of models I need without an army builder, mainly due to all the additions and upgrades. But I am slowly building an army list in Google Docs.

If you guys have any suggestions, help, ideas, input on my army, purchasing of miniatures, army list building or anything, please don't hesitate to write!

Cheers

Regarding arquebuses: they are exluded from the WYSIWYG rule on our turnaments, so as long as your opponent is clearly informed
which unit has arquebuses you don't need to have different models (however many players do that because they like :) )

IMO yes, especially medium one :)

Code:
4. Dragoons. Do I buy both mounted and dismounted miniatures?

Yes, company of dragoons contains two bases of mounted and two bases od dismounted dragoons.

Thanks Glorfindel !!

Any thoughts on getting the armor for the cavalry (question 1)?

I guess I am getting closer to placing my order, though I still need to count how many bases I need...

I would definitely take armors in mercenary regiments however I'm not sure if the full half of regiment.
It depends on few factors, however for smaller regiments 4 bases with armors and 6 bases without armors/arquebuses should be fine.

I do feel a soft spot for the Dutch considering what they did in 1658! Breaking the Swedish blockade in a daring move and landing troops to bolster the Copenhagen defense. Truly epic and the stuff adventures are made of. I have to pay tribute, I just have :-D
Also I plan to give them some orange colours here and there despite they probably didn't have real uniform colours 8-)

With regards to the dutch army:
- The first ordonance that states using a uniform dates to march 1st, 1672.
- At least as early as 1665 there were regulations thatordered 'owners' of a regiment to clothe their troops (deducting pay for the fabric), which meant that the fabric was batch bought to hand out to new recruits, or as replacement. This meant that units would have a more or less uniform outlook (but not uniform).

Cheers,
Zagin

Another question. I am looking to build a DIVISION with five regiments and some extras like dragoons and guns.

But how much do people max out their divisions?
How many FSPs are normal for 1 on 1 division plays?

Are gaming conventions playing with divisions or skirmish armies?

What do people think of division on division games? (one division pr. side)?

hard to say, it depends on their preferred style of play

I think from 40 to 60-70.

I'm not sure if you know that you can play with 25 FSP force against 100 FPS (or even more) force :)

Mostly with skirmish forces due to length of games. There are some division level tournaments but the need to last two days. There are also some hybrids like Championships at Niepolomice Castle: one battle with skirmish, two with division.

It's amazing experience however you need

- few hours (4-8) to play a game
- to know rules at least at average level (the better you know them, the less time for game you need)
- large table

Oh well I placed a large order and hope I got everything right. This should help me build a large Danish force.
The complexity of the army building is mind boggling without an army builder and with the multiple sets to choose from, but I hope this gives me a lot of variety.

The concept was not to have too many Swedish miniatures, as I plan to build a Swedish force later on and I would like them to look a little different.

This should give me five regiments almost full incl. artillery units and extra units such as dragoons.
