I started to paint these on the 3rd of January and today they were ready. So they took me a little over month to paint with my "at-least-one color-a-day" -painting scheme.
I like the Transylvanian models much and they were a joy to paint (not the horses). I Really don't like to paint the horse, so i chose to paint a Saxon Territorial defence force of 6 points first. I did go a bit bonkers with the banners on the lances, but the looked so cool. All in all 'Im ready for more.

Saxon/Town Infantry (I'm not sure if I like the idea of having one base of command in four base blister. That gave me a unit with two banners)

Very nice :-) But you didn't get as bonkers with the lances as I did :-D

Awesome stuff as always! Still haven't glued my Transylvanians, let alone painted them. Love the colours on them. And yeah, painting horses... definitely a good reason to come up with some new vocabulary. :D

Your lances are so cool Blacklegion. Any tips to paint the striped laces. Did you paint them before gluing them to the minis?

I have been thinking about doing the stripe things on the lances. Using a piece of tape to make nice equal distances. For me personally, I would add the lances to the miniatures before painting. But that is because the hassle gluing painted stuff is worse with me than trying to be fancy with paint. :D

Thank you:)
I glued the lance to the rider but I didn't glue the rider to the horse. Else no special treatement. Just a very fine brush, a steady hand and some twirling of the miniature :) First paint the lance with the lighter colour then the stripes with the darker colour.

I looked what where represented in sources. Mainly lances where red or brown with red pennants but a lot where striped too (mostly red/white) or even in other patterns. The pennant often matches to the lance's colour.
Granted the multi-coloured lances are often seen on parades or tournaments while the red and brown ones are seen otherwise. Interestingly even with red, brown and red/white lances the pennants can be red or red/white but also as often in different colours.

My colour "code" is as following:

Houshold Cavalry: Dressed mostly red. Going bonkers with lance and pennant colours.
Comitatus Cavalry: Dressed mostly red. Lances half red or red/white other half colourful. Different coloured pennants.
Enlisted Lancers: Dressed mostly red. Lances mostly red, brown and red/white with different coloured pennants.
Chimney Cavalry: Dressed mostly red. Relatively uniform look possible (private banners), lances mostly red and brown but other colours are possible (especially in private banners).
Szekely Cavalry: Dressed in various shades of red. Lances mostly red or red/white. Red pennants.
Szekely Light Cavalry: Dressed in various shades of red but occasionally in other colours too. Lances mostly red, brown or red/white. Red pennants.

The only plan I had was to paint the more elite/noble/better skilled cavalry units with brighter colors.
The same thing with the lances. I might try to paint stripes for the household cavalry.
